Samsung introduced the Galaxy Fold in unpacked 2019 along with the Samsung Galaxy S10 family of devices. The folding phone was described by Samsung CEO DJ Koh on stage as” quite good” and it comes with a huge price tag. The phone will be available in the U.S. on April 26 and Europe on May 3, 2019.
A New Category of Smartphones
Samsung is claiming that it has created a new category of the smartphone with this new Fold feature.
“We are giving you a device that doesn’t just define a new category it defies category,” says Justin Denison the Senior Vice President of product marketing.
With the Galaxy Fold, you get a powerful smartphone and a progressive tablet all in a single premium package. But what is it offering and what are the specs for this new type of device?
It has a 4.6-inch display when its folded. It’s compact and perfectly portable. When the device opens up you get a massive 7.3-inch Infinity flex Display that turns the phone into a tablet which is gorgeous. Samsung claims that building the backbone of the device was a challenge for them that could hold strong even after hundreds of thousands of folds and unfolds. For that Samsung invented a sophisticated hinge system. This hinge system allows you to open and close the device naturally and smoothly and the best part about it is that you can’t even see it. The hinges multiple interlocking gears are hidden which gives the device a seamless elegant look.
The device is going to be available into four colors, Cosmos black, Space silver, Martian green, Astro blue and you can customize the hinge color.
Three App multitasking and App continuity
Samsung Galaxy Fold gives you a unique feature called Three App multitasking that allows you to e.g: watch a video on youtube about cooking, text your friend about the recipe and browse the preparation technique all at the same time. Each screen works magnificently on its own. The fold is more than the two screens, it’s a unified device. These displays work together to give you a singular seamless multi-screen experience.
The key to making this possible is called app continuity. App continuity allows you to switch between the screens without missing a beat. So, when you scroll across some interesting Facebook post on the front display, you can simply unfold the device to see all the details on the bigger screen. That’s the beauty of the App continuity and three app multitasking, letting you use the most important apps to you the way you want.
Six Cameras in Single Smartphone
For the first time, Samsung is introducing with a system of six cameras. The cameras are just as flexible as the device. The device has 3 cameras on the back, 2 on the inside and one on the front. The Samsung Galaxy Fold will always be ready to capture the moment no matter which way you hold it or fold it.
